Welcome to the Leicestershire and Rutland Walking Group, aimed at younger walkers. We're part of the Ramblers, the charity that helps everyone, everywhere, enjoy walking and protects the places we all love to walk. The majority of our members are in their 30s and 40s but we welcome walkers outside of these ages!
Our walks programme is currently managed on the LRWG site on Meetup.com. Walks are also listed on the Google calendar in the What's On section on this website, and on Ramblers Walk Finder. Numbers on some walks are capped, and you must have a confirmed place on the Walk 'Meetup' listing before turning up to capped walks.
We're dedicated to looking after paths and green spaces, leading walks, opening up new places to explore and encouraging everyone to get outside and discover how walking boosts your health and your happiness.
Walking with the Leicestershire and Rutland Walking Group is a great way to get exercise, socialising while you go! LRWG is an active and friendly walking group. It caters for a wide range of abilities and fitness levels and welcomes new members. Before asking you to join, we invite you to try two or three of our walks. Please contact us for full details of upcoming events in our programme.
Walks
Social events
You're welcome to join us on a couple of walks before formally joining our group. Think of it as "try before you buy"! Please contact our before you come along so we know to expect you and if there has been any last minute changes, we can let you know. Also, please feel free to ask for a lift to a walk. We will put word out to the group and if anyone in your area is planning to walk that day, they may be able to offer you a lift.
What to bring on your first walk:
On walks you can expect over 20 people or far less depending on location, difficulty and the all important weather conditions! Please feel free to browse our various social media sites to see what we've been getting up to recently.
For more information, please see our members section. We look forward to welcoming you along soon!
Generally, most people come along for a couple of trial walks or social events before joining formally. However, if you do start to attend regular events, you will need to join The Ramblers. You can do this on line, via the phone or download a printable form. Please select / quote "Leicestershire & Rutland" for the area and "Leicestershire & Rutland Walking" for the group.
If you are already a member of The Ramblers and wish to transfer membership from another group to LRWG, register your membership on the main Ramblers Site to change your details on line.
By joining The Ramblers you will be supporting an organisation that is dedicated to helping walkers enjoy the countryside. You will also enjoy the following benefits:
LRWG is managed by an annually elected committee in accordance with its constitution as a Ramblers group. Members are entitled to attend committee meetings and to stand for election to the committee. Members should feel free to contact any committee members who are listed below.
