Welcome!

Welcome to the Leicestershire and Rutland Walking Group, aimed at younger walkers. We're part of the Ramblers, the charity that helps everyone, everywhere, enjoy walking and protects the places we all love to walk. The majority of our members are in their 30s and 40s but we welcome walkers outside of these ages!

Our walks programme is currently managed on the LRWG site on Meetup.com. Walks are also listed on the Google calendar in the What's On section on this website, and on Ramblers Walk Finder. Numbers on some walks are capped, and you must have a confirmed place on the Walk 'Meetup' listing before turning up to capped walks.

We're dedicated to looking after paths and green spaces, leading walks, opening up new places to explore and encouraging everyone to get outside and discover how walking boosts your health and your happiness.

Walking with the Leicestershire and Rutland Walking Group is a great way to get exercise, socialising while you go! LRWG is an active and friendly walking group. It caters for a wide range of abilities and fitness levels and welcomes new members. Before asking you to join, we invite you to try two or three of our walks. Please contact us for full details of upcoming events in our programme.

Walks
Summer evening walks

From the beginning of May to the end of August we offer evening walks (these are usually on Wednesday evenings but occasionally on a Tuesday or other evenings). The walks are generally 3 to 5 miles long and easy with a pub at the end - perfect for beginners! Walks are in local areas and start at 7:00pm. Check our calendar for the schedule.
Walks
Year round weekend walks

These are usually on Sundays but occasionally Saturday walks have been introduced to provide better opportunities for public transport. Most walks feature a leisurely lunch stop (bring a packed lunch) and a visit to a country pub. We walk in Leicestershire, Rutland, neighbouring counties and the Peak District. Walks can be anything from 7 miles upwards, rarely more than 12 miles. Some can be very easy and some quite strenuous. Check our calendar for more details.
Weekends away
Weekends Away

Weekends away generally involve a long walk on the Saturday and depending on location another long walk on the Sunday. It's a good opportunity to eat, drink, be merry and get to know your fellow walkers better. Accommodation can be in a hostel, B&B or camping. Please note that weekends away are for members only. Join LRWG now!
Socials
Socials

Parties, dining out, cinema, bowling, pub quizzes, barbecues, theme parks, fireworks, theatre, historical tours etc. Socials appear in the LRWG programme but can also be arranged on an ad hoc basis. Check our calendar for more details.

Your first walk with LRWG

You're welcome to join us on a couple of walks before formally joining our group. Think of it as "try before you buy"! Please contact our before you come along so we know to expect you and if there has been any last minute changes, we can let you know. Also, please feel free to ask for a lift to a walk. We will put word out to the group and if anyone in your area is planning to walk that day, they may be able to offer you a lift.

What to bring on your first walk:

On walks you can expect over 20 people or far less depending on location, difficulty and the all important weather conditions! Please feel free to browse our various social media sites to see what we've been getting up to recently.

For more information, please see our members section. We look forward to welcoming you along soon!
